My prayer-poem for Wednesday 28 April 2021
Commemoration of Peter Chanel, Missionary in the South Pacific, Martyr, 1841


Peter Chanel


We remember the life of a shepherd,
then priest to the poor and the ill;
Then on to the Futuna mission
where their king sent a warrior to kill
the brave priest with an axe in his home.
And the blood of the martyr was seed
sown across Oceana and spreading
the gospel where brave Christians bleed.
