My prayer-poem for Sunday 25 April 2021
The Feast of St Mark He began your Gospel, Jesus; such good news to convey but then he never finished it; perhaps he tried to say that this great gospel story, with all its joy and grace will not be truly finished ’til end of time and space. His writing may have ended, abruptly- (it’s not clear) with women told to spread the news, then running off in fear. But when great fear besets us when You challenge or you warn we know, as blessed Mark did, that Faith will soon be born. His gospel filled with buoyant hope, which leads us to reflect; for words like “raise” and “lifted up” and “save” and “resurrect”. This gospel and its writer is sacred to our Creed; today we mark what he has done to save a world in need. ©️Mark Andrew Smith
